Our Teas

Setšong is made up of artisanal, handcrafted tea products that are crafted from wild harvested, indigenous, African plants found in the natural landscapes of South Africa; more prominently within the rural areas of Limpopo.

We utilize two main ingredients to craft our tea range including the Tepane Leaf and the Diya Root which are wild harvested from Sekhukhune Land in Limpopo. These teas emulate the herbs and herbal remedies used by rural communities in Limpopo for centuries.

Benefits of Tepane Tea:

Tepane - Black Bush Tea maintains natural energy levels, rejuvenates skin cells, balances hormones and is rich in  Vitamin A, C, E, Zinc, Magnesium, Calcium & other Anti-oxidants.

Nurients found in Tepane Tea :

Vitamin A: Is responsible for nourishing and revitalising all secreting cells of the body such as eyes, nasal mucus, saliva cells and oesophageal and gastric secretions including reproductive secretions and sweat glands. Thus preventing diseases such as Conjunctivitis, Sinusitis, Oral thrush, Gastric ulcers, and Cancer.

ZINC: If you suffer from leaky gut or are on birth control, you might have low zinc levels.

You need sufficient levels of zinc to balance your thyroid hormones. It’s also a necessary trace nutrient used to regulate the menstrual cycle and fertility.

Zinc is a natural antimicrobial that kills bacteria and opens pores, thereby helping reduce acne. Even further, zinc can help support against period pain, which is symptomatic of hormonal imbalance.

VITAMIN C: Vitamin C is the most important vitamin when it comes to hormone production. It stimulates hormone production and supports progesterone production - our all-important calming hormone. Vitamin C supports our body to balance our stress hormone cortisol and is very important for our adrenal gland health. Unlike other animals, humans are unable to make vitamin C and as it's water soluble we cannot store it. This means we need to give the body plenty of vitamin C every day!

Viatmin C is also responsible for boosting and strengthening individual cells of the body and increasing the detoxification of all toxins in the body. Therefore it assists in preventing viral infections, bacterial infections and a wide range of microorganisms. It also contributes to skincare etc.

Vitamin E is responsible for nourishing hair, skin, nails and reproductive health. It is also responsible for the prevention of cancerous cells to the above-mentioned areas of the body.

MAGNESIUM: Magnesium is another mineral that has many roles in the body, such as supporting PMS symptoms, such as anxiety and water retention. Taken daily, magnesium may prevent dysmenorrhea (menstrual cramps) in some people. It works by relaxing the smooth muscle of the uterus and by reducing the prostaglandins that cause period pain.

Magnesium promotes the healthy excretion of estrogen. This may reduce the risk of the estrogen excess conditions (such as fibroids). Magnesium can also ease symptoms of the menopause transition.

Magnesium is also an important mineral, playing a role in over 300 enzyme reactions in the human body. Its many functions include helping with muscle and nerve function, regulating blood pressure, and supporting the immune system.

Iron is essential for eliminating fatigue and also plays a vital role in immune system function, treating anemia, boosting hemoglobin, and much more.

BENEFITS OF DIYA ROOT TEA:

Diya Tea is a RED ROOT TEA similar to the African potato but red in colour . Diya grows naturally in Sekhukhune land and has been consumed for many generations by the Bapedi tribe. The Tea was traditionally prepared in African traditional medicine as a natural anti-biotic to treat STI, nourish the kidneys, and treat infections It has also been utilised as a blood purifier and to improve fertility.

The root tea is high in fiber and contains Beta Carotene , Iron, Calcium, Magnesium and Zinc.

Beta Carotene like all carotenoids, is an antioxidant. An antioxidant is a substance that inhibits the oxidation of other molecules (detox); it protects the body from free radicals (toxins). Free radicals damage cells through oxidation.  Eventually, the damage caused by free radicals can cause several chronic illnesses. Beta Carotene is already a converted Vitamin A that is ready to be absorbed by the cells that are affected by Vitamin A as mentioned above.

Zinc is an essential mineral that activates and balances the hormones, hence boosts and balances the immune system, combined with above vitamins it acts as a catalyst for the overall homeostasis of the body.

Fiber assists in normalizing bowel movements, improving digestion, lowering cholesterol levels, controlling blood sugar levels and achieving a healthy weight. In people with diabetes, fiber, particularly soluble fiber, can slow the absorption of sugar and help improve blood sugar levels. A healthy diet that includes insoluble fiber may also reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

Calcium is needed for bone health and helps regulate muscle contraction. When a nerve stimulates a muscle, the body releases calcium. The calcium helps the proteins in muscle carry out the work of contraction.

Magnesium is an important mineral, playing a role in over 300 enzyme reactions in the human body. Its many functions include helping with muscle and nerve function, regulating blood pressure, and supporting the immune system.
